Skoda Superb launch is expected to happen in January 2016 and there have been multiple sightings. This time, the car was spotted without any camouflage by Carwale.
Based on a more advanced MQB platform that makes it 75kg lighter than the predecessor, Skoda’s new Superb will come to India with a similar set of 1.8-litre TSI and 2.0-litre diesel engines. It measures 4861 mm long and 1864 mm wide which is an increase of 80 mm in length translating into a larger boot space of 625 litres, 30 more than the previous version. The Superb stand 1482 mm tall.
Internationally the Skoda Superb comes in 5 petrol variants and 3 diesel versions, but which on these come to India is a question only Skoda can answer currently.
Petrol variants available in Europe :
- 1.4 TSI – 125 PS and 200 Nm
- 1.4 TSI – 150 PS and 250 Nm
- 1.8 TSI – 180 PS and 250 Nm
- 2.0 TSI – 220 PS and 350 Nm
- 2.0 TSI – 280 PS and 350 Nm
The Diesel engine line-up :
- 1.6 TDI – 120 PS and 250 Nm
- 2.0 TDI – 150 PS and 340 Nm
- 2.0 TDI – 190 PS and 400 Nm
Transmission options will be a 6-speed manual, 6-speed DSG automatic and a 7-speed DSG automatic. Power will be sent to the front wheels while the all-wheel drive will be an option.
The new flagship looks sharp with its characteristic lines flowing across the length. The large grille with LED headlamps. The roof curves down like a coupe and looks elegant. The rear has the typical C-shaped tail that is synonymous with the Skoda family.
In terms of equipment, the new car gets LED daytime running lights, Bi-Xenon headlights and LED tail lights. On the inside, you get electric adjustment for the front seats, tri-zone climate control, parking assist, an 8-inch touchscreen MirrorLink system, Smartlink infotainment system with iPad, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility (on the top end variant), wireless charging, CANTON premium audio system.
Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with Driving Mode Select, three-zone automatic climate control, Electric panoramic tilt and slide roof, Electrically adjustable front seats with lumbar support and memory function, electrically operated tailgate, High-speed internet access based on LTE, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Emergency brake function, Electronic tire pressure monitoring system, seven airbags, optional rear side airbags. comprise of the safety features. The car is expected to be priced north of Rs 22 lakh and will compete against Audi A3, Toyota Camry.
