he 2016 Auto Expo is still some time away, but some manufacturers have turned up the heat already. Look at Ford, for example – it launched the new Endeavour a few days ago, and today, it has unveiled the Mustang GT for India. Let’s get right to it, shall we?
The only variant Ford will offer here initially is the 5.0-litre V8 (yes!) GT. It seems the 2.3-litre EcoBoost motor is not on the agenda for now, and the reason is clear – Ford wants to make an impact with the Mustang first up. This motor is slightly down on power compared to the one sold abroad, making 395bhp and 515Nm of torque, and is mated to a six-speed automatic (with paddle-shifters). No performance figures yet, but we expect it to crack the 0-100kph run in the low 5s, while top speed should be around 250kph.
Since it is the only variant offered, the 5.0 V8 GT Automatic comes loaded with gizmos. Standard equipment includes climate control, front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, leather upholstery and Ford’s voice-activated SYNC2 infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen. What’s also offered are launch control and driving modes – Normal (for everyday driving), Snow/Wet (for the monsoon), Sport (for carving up mountain roads) Track (for the weekend trip to the Buddh International Circuit) – and electronic line-lock, for when you’re in the mood for some burnouts. Oh, there’s also a reverse camera, which you can possibly use to look at all the smoke caused by the 275-section rears lighting up.
Also, this may be a two-door coupe, but it is far from impractical – it’s a 2+2, so you can take your friends along for a drift, and even has a 408-litre boot. What? Fuel efficiency? Are you serious?
A total of six paint shades will be available: black, red, yellow, silver, white and grey. Launch has been confirmed for the second quarter of 2016.
