Toyota has launched the new 2017 Corolla Altis with the new front bumper design along with a refreshed instrument panel design among other minor updates to the interiors. More notably, Toyota says the new Altis’ 7-speed CVTi has been further refined for enhanced performance, and the car is now equipped with seven airbags, compared to two in the outgoing model.
Mechanically, the new Corolla Altis is available with same two engine options – the 1.8-litre petrol which makes 138bhp and 173Nm which is available with both manual and CVT; and the 1.4-litre turbo diesel with 87bhp and 205Nm of torque which is only available with the 6-speed manual. It’s still a comfort-oriented sedan and offers rear reclining seats and plenty of cabin space. Safety features apart from the increased number of airbags include hill start assist, vehicle stability control, ABS and EBD with BA.
The new Corolla Altis, in its starting ‘G’ trim, is pricier by about Rs 5Compared to the outgoing model, the new Corolla Altis starts 55000, costing Rs 15.87 lakh. Meanwhile, the range-topping trim with the petrol engine and CVT now costs over a lakh more than that of the outgoing model, priced at Rs 19.91 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
